I don’t know how I came upon this video, but it doesn’t really matter. What I saw and heard changed me. Seriously. Glen Hansard and The Swell Season were touring in 2009, and he heard this one voice passionately singing from the front rows. So what does he do? He calls her up on stage to “jam” with the band. Not knowing what would happen. Unafraid of failure or looking bad. Just going for it - diving into that great big ocean of unknowns called faith and hope. (I too just dove into that pool, but that’s for another post later today).
What happened is nothing short of transformational.
Beyond the sheer magic of it all (I’ll admit my lifelong dream of being a backup singer), my favorite part of this whole event is Glen’s flabbergasted comment after Moji left the stage: “Wow. Where do we go from there?”
So you just keep giving. And sometimes you get way more than you could have ever imagined.

I saw your post and wanted to share another story with you… not to gain any exposure, but to show another example of the type of guy Glen Hansard is. Please make sure to click on the links with the back story or not of it will make sense. However, it has to do with this same song.
hope you enjoy:

Hey, I love this. I found this because I follow Tom Meny on Twitter and thought you’d like this link of the same show:

It shows the part where Glen hear’s Moji’s voice in the crowd and then invites her up. It’s awesome!!!
Hi Tom,
So great to meet you here and on Twitter. I love, love, love your story - so amazing. Artists like Glen Hansard are one in a million in how they engage with their fans. So honest and so inspiring. We will be watching YOU! All best, D
Hey Sherrie,
Thanks for finding us here! I love your video better than mine as it shows the real buildup to the killer climax when they just let it rip. I do cry every time I watch this - my secret dream is to be a backup singer…been singing my whole life. Have a great weekend! Deb
