Tens of thousands of fans performed this totally cool “cellphone wave” at Coldplay’s Auckland show last night, 3/19. Talk about a brilliant - and SIMPLE - fan engagement idea.
If you’re performing live, ask yourself again - how can I really engage people who show up to hear me play? Am I talking AT them or WITH them? Where’s the reciprocity between the band and the fans? This video is proof positive it doesn’t take a complicated scheme to get people really on board and feeling like they’re part of the game - even the guys waaaaaaaay back in the nosebleed section. It’s a band-to-fan handshake guaranteed to have them showing up again and again for more.
