I am a producer of engagement. Part grassroots marketing consultant; part online marketing expert; and part brand designer/publicist.
I work with you to design your audience engagement strategy. Together, we take your projects - films, music, culture, people - polish them, and figure out how to brilliantly connect them (and you) with your true audiences.
There are no cookie cutter solutions. Our strategy will be lovingly mixed for you: a blend of your content with my ideas on branding, press, digital, distribution, outreach and community-building.
I tend to live the stuff I take on, I’m selective about the people and projects I work with. But once we’re together, I stay awake puzzling what you should do next to build your empire and pull the right people to you and your work.
I’m proud of the fact that almost without exception, my clients have become my friends.
THE LONGER STORY
After early life experience as lifeguard, church organist, short order cook, tv producer, journalist, and non-profit publicist, I was well-equipped to leap into the professional chaos of agency public relations. There, I managed criminally high budgets and developed products, people and businesses ranging from costume jewelry, to press and trade parties, to drag racing events. When I got tired of the shilling and over-blown billing, I cut loose to have my kids and turned consultant - which gained me the control I wanted over who and what I’d be backing.
Since escaping from agency nation, I’ve collaborated with everyone from brilliant filmmakers and arts organizations to traditional Fortune 100 companies seeking a fresh, indie viewpoint on their engagement strategies. I’ve advised on everything from branding and press to content strategy to online/social. But what all my projects have shared is a desire to improve their image, build visibility, and cultivate audiences through smart, creative outreach.
After working the “big side” of agency PR and advertising for a long time, I know all the tricks of the trade as well as the bullshit and glitz that can come with the publicity and PR side of the business. You’ll never hear those lines from me.
I also know that contrary to what many say, it’s not just about your “contacts.” It’s really about how you make connections. And the connections I make for you come from developing your story, and delivering it authentically.
I don’t promise big “results” for an underdeveloped idea or project. I do promise to provide a very zoomed out look at what you need to ignite your product or service - both short- and long-term.
I help you figure out what you don’t know. Put new eyes on your branded identity, and help you polish an on-and offline presence that builds a quality audience around your product or service.
I have degrees in English and Politics from the University of Rochester, NY, studied voice at Eastman School of Music, and composition/music business online at the Berklee College of Music. I started playing the piano when I was five, and as a result of that quirk of nature, am working up a library of cues for film and commercial work.
I love people who are honest, focused on their passion, and who know how to get shit done while not taking it all too seriously. If that’s you, we are good to go.
All best,
Deb
I’m always happy to do a phone consult on your project.
